Cats to face four preseason Top 25 squads

The AP Top 25 debuted on Sunday with eight teams from the SEC and four UK regular season opponents featured.

The Wildcats will play two at home and two on the road.

South Carolina is the highest-ranked Kentucky opponent in the presason poll. The Gamecocks, projected as the favorite in the SEC East, come in at No. 9. Steve Spurrier's squad will visit Lexington on Oct. 4.

Another East club, Georgia, comes in at No. 12. The Cats and Dawgs will meet on Senior Day, Nov. 8, at Commonwealth Stadium with UGA brining preseason All-American running back Todd Gurley to town.

The Cats will travel to Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 18 to play LSU, who comes in at No. 13.

Missouri, at No. 24, will play host to UK on Nov. 1 in Columbia. The Tigers were last year's susprise SEC East champions.

Alabama (No. 2), Auburn (No. 6), Ole Miss (No. 18) and Texas A&M (No. 21) also represented the SEC in the first AP Top 25 poll.

Defending national champion Florida State came in at No. 1 with Alabama, Oregon, Oklahoma and Ohio State rounding out the top five in the first season in which there will be a four-team playoff to end the year.
