LEXINGTON, Ky. --- Seniors Dougie Allen and Ronnie Riley have been elected Kentucky's official season captains by their Wildcat teammates, the school announced Saturday.
Allen, a 5-foot-10, 179-pound wide receiver from Lexington, has played in 25 games and started eight during his UK career. Despite missing part of the last two seasons with injuries, he's managed to catch 47 passes for 578 yards and five touchdowns.
The former Lexington Dunbar standout had a career-high 75 yards in last year's season opener against Louisville, including Jared Lorenzen's first collegiate touchdown pass.
Riley, a 6-2, 230-pound linebacker from San Antonio, Texas, enters the 2001 season as a first-year starter following an impressive spring on the field and in the weightroom. He played in all 11 games last season, primarily as an outside linebacker, and recorded 23 tackles with one sack.
One of three former Judson High School stars on the team (along with defensive end Otis Grigsby and offensive lineman Nick Seitze), Riley had a career-high six tackles and a sack last year against Vanderbilt.
