Changes abound on Kentucky's 2015 schedule

Kentucky's 2015 football schedule was announced Tuesday with a number of intriguing changes to the Wildcats' traditional SEC dates.

Mark Stoops' team will play eight home games for its first season in a newly-renovated Commonwealth Stadium, including Kentucky's first-ever Thursday night game when Auburn visits Lexington on Oct. 15. The Cats will have an open date leading up to that marquee matchup, giving them 12 days to prepare for the Tigers.

Among the other notable changes are a Week 2 SEC matchup with South Carolina on Sept. 12 in Columbia, S.C., marking the first time UK will open league play against the Gamecocks, and a Halloween clash at home against Tennessee on Oct. 31. That will be the earliest matchup between the Cats and Vols, who have traditionally played in late November, since 1909.

The non-conference slate includes a season-opening game against UL Lafayette on Sept. 5 at Commonwealth Stadium, an Oct. 3 home matchup with Eastern Kentucky, and consecutive home games to close the season against Charlotte (Nov. 21) and Louisville (Nov. 28). UK has not closed a regular season against two non-conference opponents since joining the SEC in 1933.

The games against UL Lafayette and Charlotte will be the first in program history. Charlotte will be playing its first season as an FBS team in Conference USA, making the jump from FCS Independent status.
