UK Hoops posts 141 points in exhibition win

Matthew Mitchell's UK Hoops squad looked strong Thursday night in its lone exhibition tune-up for the upcoming women's college basketball season.

No. 11 Kentucky shot 63 percent from the field and got double-figure scoring from eight players en route to a 141-63 romp over Pikeville at Memorial Coliseum.

"I thought the players did what they were charged to do tonight," Mitchell said. "We really talked about energy and effort and playing hard. We are long way away from being a finished product, but we have worked very hard on our effort and conditioning and running the floor. So, the things that we could control tonight – I thought we did a pretty good job.”

Jennifer O'Neill and Alexis Jennings each scored 20 points for the Wildcats, followed by Linnae Harper (19), Makayla Epps (18), Janee Thompson (16), Azia Bishop (14), Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (13), and Bria Goss (11).

Kentucky's hot shooting night was highlighted by an 11-for-23 showing from beyond the 3-point arc. O'Neill, a senior guard and preseason All-SEC selection, made four of seven attempts from long range.

The Wildcats held Pikeville to 40 percent from the field and forced 37 turnovers leading to 52 points for UK.

Epps and Bishop each grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Cats, who held a 49-24 advantage on the boards. Epps flirted with a triple-double, also dishing out eight assists to tie Goss for team-high honors as UK recorded 32 assists on its 56 baskets.

Kentucky opens the regular season on Friday, Nov. 14, against Appalachian State in a 7 p.m. ET tipoff at Memorial Coliseum.
