Texas native and Kentucky Special Teams and Safeties Coach Craig Naivar is headed back to the Lone Star state to join Tom Herman’s inaugural Houston Cougars staff.

After only a season on Mark Stoops’ Kentucky staff, Craig Naivar will be leaving the Wildcats’ program.  Naivar joined the Kentucky staff last winter, replacing the departed Bradley Dale Peveto.

Naivar’s single season at Kentucky produced mixed results as with significant rough patches in the LSU and Georgia games, but he groomed a freshman All-America kicker in Austin McGinnis.

He spent time coaching at Sam Houston State, Texas State and Rice before joining the Kentucky coaching staff.  It’s unknown what role he will take with Tom Herman’s staff.

Kentucky will now be looking to hire a third Special Teams and Safeties Coach in three seasons. Mark Stoops is also expected to name Shannon Dawson as his new Offensive Coordinator tomorrow.

All Wildcats will keep you updated on Kentucky’s coaching vacancies.
