Ulis named SEC Freshman of The Week

Kentucky's Tyler Ulis became the fourth member of the Wildcats' highly-regarded 2014 signing class to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors coming off his big performance against Louisville.

Ulis scored a career-high 14 points, dished out two assists and played turnover-free basketball in the Cats' 58-50 win over the rival Cardinals on Saturday at the KFC Yum! Center.

He was named the Bluegrass Sports Commission's MVP for his effort against Louisville, which included a pair of key second-half 3-pointers after bouncing back from a laceration to his forehead earlier in the physical matchup.

Ulis is now shooting 52 percent (12 of 23) from 3-point range and has a 41:13 assist-to-turnvoer ratio this season. His 13 steals rank third on the team.

Each of UK's talented newcomers have now earned the award this season. Ulis joined Trey Lyles (opening week of the season), Karl-Anthony Towns (twice in early December) and Devin Booker (following his 19-point effort against UCLA) as honorees.

Alabama's Ricky Tarrant was the SEC Player of the Week after scoring 24 points in the Crimson Tide's win over UCLA.

No. 1 Kentucky (13-0) returns to the court Jan. 6 in the SEC opener against Ole Miss. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena.
