Florida DB flips to Cats

If the calendar reads "January," that means it's time for many twists and turns in college football recruiting.

Kentucky was the beneficiary of one of those twists on Tuesday, receiving a verbal commitment from Orange Park (Fla.) Oakleaf defensive back Chris Westry, who had previously committed to Auburn.

The news was broken by his high footbal program's Twitter account, @OakleafFootball, which wrote: "2015 DB Chris Westry has committed to Kentucky! #GoBlue"

Westry (6-4, 180) is ranked the No. 17 safety prospect in the Sunshine State for 2015, but many believe he could play both defensive back positions at the next level thanks to his speed and hips. He also held offers from programs like Florida and Arkansas.

He made an official visit to Lexington this past weekend. His addition to UK's 2015 class gives the Wildcats 18 verbal commitments, including five defensive backs, which was a major priority for Mark Stoops entering this recruiting year. National Signing Day is on Wednesday, February 4.
