Junior forward Willie Cauley-Stein was tabbed to the Oscar Robertson Trophy midseason watch list as the nation’s top overall player, while freshmen Devin Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns and Tyler Ulis were selected for the Wayman Tisdale Award watch list honoring the nation’s top freshman.
Cauley-Stein is averaging 9.4 points per game and leads the Wildcats in rebounding at 6.9 per game while earning the reputation as one of the country’s best defensive players.
Booker, who is averaging 10.4 points per game, leads UK with 34 made 3-pointers on the season. He’s shooting 50 percent from behind the arc.
Towns is averaging 8.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game while registering a team-high 46 blocks on the year. His seven blocks in a win last week over Vanderbilt marked the most by a UK player this season.
Ulis, who was named the Wayman Tisdale Freshman of the Week following a breakout performance in a road victory over Louisville, is posting 5.6 points and 3.6 assists per game. He leads the SEC with a 3.6 assist-to-turnover ratio.
The USBWA awards will be presented on April 14 in Oklahoma City. All Division I players remain eligible to be placed on the final list of candidates.
