Towns Named SEC Freshman of The Week

Karl-Anthony Towns has been named SEC Freshman of the Week for third time this season.

The Kentucky center/forward helped the No. 1 Wildcats match the best start in school history (25-0) by averaging 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks last week in wins over LSU and South Carolina.

Towns leads UK in blocked shots with 58 this season and is tied for the team lead in rebounds per game at 6.4. Over the last five games, the New Jersey native is leading the Cats in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots.

It marked the 10th time this season that a UK player has claimed the award, including five by Devin Booker, three by Towns and one each for Trey Lyles and Tyler Ulis.

ArkansasBobby Portis won the SEC Player of the Week honor after posting averages of 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 assists in leading the Razorbacks to road wins at Auburn and Ole Miss.
