Kentucky's Cody named Nat'l Player of Week

Kentucky’s Kyle Cody has been named the Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week and the SEC’s co-Pitcher of the Week after hurling seven no-hit innings and striking out nine in a win Saturday over Nebraska-Omaha in Port Charlotte, Fla.

The junior right-hander improved to 1-1 on the season following his gem, which also included walking just one batter. He retired 15 consecutive batters to close out the appearance.

Cody, a 6-foot-7, 245-pound native of Chippewa Falls, Wisc., has been tabbed the No. 19 prospect in the 2015 MLB Draft by Baseball America. The preseason All-American started in the Cape Cod League’s All-Star Game last summer.

He owns a 4.50 ERA with 18 strikeouts and three walks in three appearances this season.

Kentucky (7-3) is scheduled to play its home opener on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. ET, a doubleheader against Murray State at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
