Kentucky coach Mark Stoops likes how QB Patrick Towles has responded to criticism

Kentucky's Patrick Towles endured a week full of criticism for his play in a 14-9 loss to Florida that ultimately led to the junior quarterback deciding to ditch his social media accounts for a while.

Rather than tweets, he responded with touchdowns.

Towles bounced back with perhaps his best performance as a Wildcat, completing 22 of 27 passes for 249 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a third score in UK's 21-13 win over No. 25 Missouri, giving the program its first win over a ranked opponent in its last 19 tries.

On Monday during his weekly press luncheon, UK head coach Mark Stoops praised Towles for handling the situation, while sending a message to Big Blue Nation that not all the criticism leveled on his quarterback was entirely fair.

"As you know, that position gets a lot of pressure put on it," Stoops said. "There's a lot of critics out there, and it's an easy target, to target one guy... I understand what goes on in this business, and there's always somebody to blame. After a loss, the bullseye goes on the quarterback, but he bounced back and had a great week."

Stoops noted that he feels bad for today's generation of players who have to deal with social media in addition to the other pressures on them.
