The Kentucky Wildcats have reportedly picked up their sixth verbal commitment --- and their first from out of state --- of the 2002 football recruiting season.
Andre Jones, a 6-foot, 180-pound wide receiver/defensive back from Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., told Bluegrass Recruiting that he has picked the Cats over Auburn and LSU.
Jones, who possesses 4.4 speed in the 40 and a 270-pound bench, had also received interest from Alabama, Illinois, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse and Louisville. He projects as a wide receiver, but has played primarily on the defensive side of the ball at Choctawhatchee. As a junior, he recorded 80 tackles and three interceptions.
An excellent student, Jones maintains a 3.5 GPA and says his goal is to be a 4.0 student this year.
In addition to Jones, the Cats also have commitments from the following players: Arliss Beach (RB, Ashland); Paul Webb (DL, Johnson Central); Joe Brady (OL, Beechwood); Brad Booker (LB, Bowling Green) and Randy Driver (DB, Glasgow). Kentucky is also expected to bring in 2001 commitments Chad Anderson (LB/DE) and Darimy Crawford (WR) as part of its 2002 class. That would leave the team with eight scholarships remaining for this year.
