McNeill, a junior catcher drove in three runs for the No. 25 Wildcats (1-1). UK also got a two-run homer from freshman left fielder Tristan Pompey, who became the first Cat to record a long ball for his first career hit since Luke Maile in 2010. Junior third baseman JaVon Shelby matched his career high with three hits, including two doubles.
The solid run support helped Dustin Beggs claim the win. The senior right-hander worked six innings, allowing just four hits and a walk. The Georgia native also struck out five.
UK freshman Justin Lewis got the final two outs for his first career save in his NCAA debut.
George Mason (0-2) starter Joe Williams (0-1) worked four innings, allowing five hits and four runs, walking one and striking out four.
Kentucky will return to action on Sunday, playing Dayton at 10 a.m. ET at USC Upstate.
