Robinson Has Great Summer

Few can say they had a better summer than Russell Robinson. The New York guard made a title-winning jumper and was the catalyst for another major championship. He's got his list down to six but others want in.

First of all, let's chronicle the AAU run Russell Robinson strung together since April. He was the MVP of the Kingwood Classic when the Gauchos won their first title. His buzzer beating jumper gave them a second championship when they won the Peach Jam title. And then, for his last trick, he led the Gauchos to the Super Showcase championship.

We talked to Robinson early this week and it was more than understandable that he sounded a little road weary. Still, the business of college basketball dictates that it's time to narrow down his list.

"I've got it narrowed to six but it's still open," Robinson said. "Georgia Tech, Kansas, Kentucky, Connecticut, St. John's and Florida State."

"Arkansas wants to get in."

That's a fairly long list for this time of the year and Robinson knows that he needs to chop it to down and start making some visit dates. He's just not sure who is going to get the official trips.

Robinson, like many who follow recruiting with a passion, was slightly surprised that no one from the core group of guards – himself, A.J. Price, Josh Wright, Jason Rich, etc. – that were being recruited by the same schools made a commitment.

"I thought that at first. Most of the kids had the same schools. I figured [someone] would [commit] soon like in August after the period is over. I thought that some kids would commit but that hasn't happened yet."

And don't expect Robinson to be the first. "I'm not going to commit to a school that I haven't seen yet." All throughout the process he's maintained that he's got to see some campuses and that's what official visits are for.
