The tourney field was announced Sunday with Rachel Lawson's Wildcats drawing the highest seed in school history. UK will play host to regional games this weekend at John Cropp Stadium.
The Lexington Regional will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday with UK welcoming Utah, Illinois and Butler to campus for the double-elimination bracket. Game times and broadcast schedules will be set later this week. The Cats will open against Butler on Friday night with Utah facing Illinois in the other matchup.
Kentucky (43-12) played Utah earlier this season, winning on a walk-off passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning by the then-No. 22 Utes at the Kajikawa Classic in Phoenix. UK has not played Butler or Illinois this season.
For the fourth-consecutive year, the SEC will be sending a league-record 11 teams to the tournament. The SEC earned eight national seeds, as regular-season champion Florida (53-5) earned the national No. 1 seed and tourney champion Auburn (49-9) earned the No. 4 seed. Alabama (46-12) is the No. 6 national seed, while UK is the No. 9 seed. LSU (45-15) is the No. 10 seed, and Tennessee (41-14) earned the No. 13 seed. Missouri (39-14) earned the No. 15 seed, while Georgia (40-17) rounds out the list as the No. 16 seed.
Tickets will go on sale Monday morning at the Joe Craft Center ticket office on online at UKathletics.com/tickets. Fans can find all Lexington Regional information at Tourney Central here: http://bit.ly/1Wz6V2u.
