Three former Kentucky Wildcats on USA Select Team this summer

Former Kentucky standouts Devin Booker, Willie Cauley-Stein and Julius Randle have been selected to play for the USA Select Team that will train with the national squad this summer.

The team is often a stepping stone to making the national team in the future with a chance to represent the USA in the Olympics. Former Cats DeMarcus Cousins and John Wall are among 31 finalists for the 2016 U.S. Olympic squad which will train against the select team on July 18-21 in Las Vegas before heading to Brazil.

UK All-American Anthony Davis was also a finalist for the Olympic team, but has opted out due to an injury.

Booker, who made the All-Rookie First Team last month, averaged 13.8 points, 2.6 assists and 2.5 rebounds in 27.7 minutes per game with the Phoenix Suns. The sharpshooter finished in third in the 3-Point Contest during the NBA’s All-Star Game festivities.

Cauley-Stein, who made the NBA’s All-Rookie Second Team, averaged 7.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 block in 66 games for the Sacramento Kings.

In Randle’s first full season in the NBA, he was one of only a few players in the league to average a double-double, posting 11.3 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. He ranked 15th in the NBA with 34 double-doubles and led the Los Angeles Lakers in rebounding.

Randle has previous USA Basketball experience, winning a gold medal in 2012 with the USA Basketball U18 Championship squad.
