Kentucky Wildcats' 2017 football scheduled unveiled

Kentucky's 2017 football schedule was officially released via the SEC Network on Tuesday night.

The Wildcats have seven home dates and five road dates on the slate. They will open with what should be a spirited rematch against Southern Miss, who defeated UK 44-35 in this year's opener, on Sept. 2 in Hattiesburg. It will mark the first visit to USM in program history.

FCS neighbor Eastern Kentucky, led by new head coach Mark Elder, will visit Commonwealth Stadium on Sept. 9. The Cats and Colonels have played four times since 1998, the latest a thrilling 34-27 overtime victory by UK last season in Lexington.

Kentucky opens SEC play on Sept. 16 at South Carolina, followed by a three-game homestand against Florida, Eastern Michigan and Missouri. The non-conference matchup with EMU will be the first between the Cats and the Eagles.

After an open date on Oct. 14, UK will have an Oct. 21 trip to Starkville to face perennial West rival Mississippi State.

Back-to-back home games against Tennessee and Ole Miss fall on Oct. 28 and Nov. 4, followed by consecutive road games at Vanderbilt and Georgia on Nov. 11 and Nov. 18. It will mark the first time that UK has faced Ole Miss since 2011.

Kentucky closes the regular season on Nov. 25 against in-state rival Louisville in the annual Governor's Cup game at Commonwealth Stadium.

Each game is slated for a Saturday kickoff in 2017.
