Kentucky Wildcats' Denzil Ware named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week

Coming off what Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops described as his best game as a Wildcat, sophomore defensive end Denzil Ware was on Monday recognized as the SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.

Ware recorded five tackles and two sacks -- including the game-clinching, fourth-down sack of South Carolina quarterback Brandon McIlwain -- on Saturday in the Cats' 17-10 win over the Gamecocks at Commonwealth Stadium.

It was the first two-sack game of the Opp, Ala., native's UK career.

The performance helped UK hold South Carolina to a season-low 10 points and only 268 yards of total offense. The Cats entered the game allowing 43.7 points and 528 yards per game.

Ware leads UK with 4.5 tackles for loss this season and is tied with linebacker Josh Allen for the team lead with three sacks. He has 17 total tackles and two quarterback hits.
