Kentucky Wildcats freshman "Bam" Adebayo named to Abdul-Jabbar watch list

A third member of Kentucky's elite basketball signing class has been placed on a preseason award watch list.

Freshman Edrice "Bam" Adebayo was on Friday named to the preseason watch list for the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award honoring the top center in the nation. He's one of 20 players nationally on the list announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Earlier this week, freshman point guard De'Aaron Fox was named to the Bob Cousy watch list and freshman shooting guard Malik Monk was tabbed for the Jerry West watch list.

Adebayo, a 6-foot-10, 260-pound McDonald's All-American from High Point Christian Academy in North Carolina, was named to the preseason All-SEC team earlier this week. He averaged 18.9 points and 13.0 rebounds per game as a high school senior, earning the No. 11 overall ranking in the Class of 2016 by Scout.

The Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award is named for the Naismith Hall of Fame member and three-time NCAA champion at UCLA. Previous winners include Jakob Poeltl from Utah (2016) and Frank Kaminsky of Wisconsin (2015).

Adebayo and the Cats will be in action tonight in the annual Blue-White Game at Rupp Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
