Waters: Kentucky Reminiscent of Fab Five

In the aftermath of his team's 101-70 loss on Wednesday at No. 1 Kentucky, Cleveland State coach Gary Waters said the freshman-dominated Wildcats remind him of Michigan's "Fab Five" from the early 1990s.

“They’re playing pretty well together," Waters said. "They play their roles well together. A lot of people make a big-to-do about five freshmen. If you look at those five freshmen, probably all five will be in the draft.

"When I look at their team – I was fortunate when I was at Eastern Michigan to be able to play the Fab Five when they were all freshman - (the UK freshmen) have the equivalency to be able to go out there and play like that. They’re literally a better defensive team. They don’t have the guard size that Michigan team had, but they do have the quickness and defensive ability that team had.”

Kentucky's freshmen scored 68 of the Cats' 101 points against the Vikings, including a career-high 23 from Malik Monk, 16 from De'Aaron Fox, 14 from Bam Adebayo and 10 from Wenyen Gabriel.

UK improved to 5-0 on the young season.
