Kentucky Wildcats' Benny Snell Jr., Logan Stenberg named to Freshman All-SEC Team

Two of the players who helped Kentucky set numerous school rushing records were named to the Freshman All-SEC Team on Thursday.

Running back Benny Snell Jr. and offensive guard Logan Stenberg each earned a spot on the team selected by the league's coaches.

The 5-foot-11, 220-pound Snell rushed for 1,057 yards and 13 touchdowns in his first season with the Wildcats, both school records for a freshman. He teamed with Stanley "Boom" Williams to give UK its first pair of 1,000-yard rushers in the same season.

The Westerville, Ohio, native did not have a single rushing attem until the third game of the season, but finished with five 100-yard rushing games, including a career-high 192 against Missouri.

Kentucky currently boasts the No. 16 rushing attack in the nation, averaging more than 241 yards per game and 5.5 yards per carry.

A big part of that success has been the play of the offensive line, including Stenberg. The Madison, Ala., native was part of a nine-man rotation which developed into one of the best units in the country.

The 6-foot-6, 318-pound Stenberg recorded 37 knockdown blocks, had only one missed assignment and allowed only one quarterback pressure this season.

Earlier this week, Alabama defensive end Jonathan Allen, who won SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors, cited the UK offensive line as the most physical group he faced this year.

The Cats (7-5) return to action on New Year's Eve against Georgia Tech (8-4) in the TaxSlayer Bowl at Jacksonville, Fla.
