Five-star 2018 PG JaVonte Smart makes unofficial visit to Kentucky Wildcats

Louisiana junior shares photo with Coach Cal from visit to UK.

One of Kentucky's top targets in the Class of 2018 made an unofficial visit to Lexington on Monday.

JaVonte Smart, the No. 1 point guard in the junior class, posted a picture with UK head coach John Calipari to his Twitter social media account this afternoon. Not coincidentally, the photo also showcased a framed print of former Wildcats point guard John Wall and former Memphis point guard Derek Rose alongside Calipari at an NBA game.

The 6-foot-3 Smart is the No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2018, according to Scout. He has also drawn early interest from programs like Baylor, LSU, UCLA, Ohio State, Oklahoma, North Carolina, N.C. State, and Texas, among many others.

During the Tournament of Champions event last month, Smart told Scout: "Everything is going good with Kentucky. They just tell me to watch them play, and think about how I’d fit in and how they use their guards, and that it’d be good a spot for me.”

The Baton Rouge (La.) Scotlandville Magnet standout appears to be one of three main point guards that UK has its eye on early in the process. The other two are five-star Maryland product Immanuel Quickley and four-star Texas product Quentin Grimes.
