Kentucky Wildcats to open SEC Tournament against Georgia or Tennessee

Cats to face winner of Bulldogs-Volunteers matchup on Friday in Nashville.

Kentucky will face either Georgia or Tennessee in its opening game of the SEC Tournament next week in Nashville, the league office announced Saturday night.

The top-seeded Wildcats, who earned a double-bye by winning their 48th SEC regular-season championship, will play the Bulldogs (8) or Volunteers (9) on Friday at 1 p.m. ET in the quarterfinals at Bridgestone Arena. The game will be broadcast by the SEC Network.

No. 9 Kentucky (26-5) is 3-1 against Georgia and Tennessee this season. The Cats swept the Bulldogs while splitting their two games against the Vols.

A potential semifinal matchup could feature Kentucky against South Carolina (4) if both teams advance to Saturday.

Each game for UK in the SEC Tourney will be at 1 p.m. ET. Both the semifinals and championship game will be televised by ESPN.

The tournament will tip off Wednesday. The Cats are 127-25 all-time in the event with 29 championships, more than the other league teams combined.
