Kentucky Wildcats pound Miami pitching in 16-3 victory

Cats move to 8-0 at home.

Kentucky moved to 8-0 on the season at Cliff Hagan Stadium with a 16-3 romp on Friday over Miami (Ohio).

The Wildcats (10-6) clinched the series win with their second win over the Redhawks in as many days. Due to expected winter weather in Lexington on Saturday, the series finale has been moved to Sunday.

Nick Mingione's squad has outscored opponents 83-14 at home this season. On Friday, the Cats pounded out 15 hits and drew 10 walks against Miami, led by a three-hit game from senior outfielder Marcus Carson. Tristan Pompey, Zach Reks and Luke Heyer each added two hits.

UK had 12 players score a run, 10 record hits and nine drive in a run. Gunnar McNeill hit his first home run of the season.

It was more run support than starter Zach Logue (3-1) would ever require. The junior left-hander picked up his team-leading third victory of the season by holding Miami to one earned run on five hits over six innings. He struck out six and walked only one in lowering his season ERA to 1.84.

Zach Spears (1-3) took the loss for Miami, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks over 5.1 innings on the mound.

Hayden Senger had a solo home run for the Redhawks (3-9).
