A native of Canada, Gilgeous-Alexander starred for Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a member of Canada's U18 national team that won the silver medal at the 2016 FIBA Americas championships.

Gilgeous-Alexander is part of the nation's No. 1 recruiting class that also includes P.J. Washington, Nick Richards, Jarred Vanderbilt, Quade Green, and Jemarl Baker, as well as early enrollee Hamidou Diallo. Kentucky is expected to add at least two more prospects after losing eight players from this year's roster.

Past UK greats such as Jack Givens, Rick Robey, Kyle Macy, Rex Chapman, Derek Anderson and Jamal Mashburn have played in the event, as well as a long list of other basketball legends that includes Moses Malone, Isaiah Thomas, Dominique Wilkins and Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway.
