Kentucky's Defense Comes Up Big

Kentucky held Florida scoreless over the last 2:55 and finished the game on an 11-0 run to win their first matchup of the season with the Gators.

Cliff Hawkins came up with a huge steal and an ensuing layup with 1:08 left in the contest to put the Cats on top for good. Hawkins finished with 4 assists and 0 turnovers on the night.

"I was anticipating it and just reading his eyes the whole time. He threw it right to where I thought he would," Hawkins said. "You want to try and make them pass the ball crosscourt in that situation because it is a tough pass to make."

Erik Daniels had another great game for the Cats. He finished with 22 points on 8-12 FG's and collected 6 rebounds.

"It was a great comeback. It showed a lot of poise and character on our behalf to hang in there after losing the lead," Kentucky coach Tubby Smith said. "We have had that problem most of the year, but tonight we found a way to overcome that."

This was Kentucky's fifth straight win over the Gators.
