Amir Johnson is a 6'9" 200# Power Forward from Los Angeles, Westchester HS. He did not get to play at all this season for Westchester due to a transfer rule in California.
His ranking is solely based on his play at the Nike Camp this summer. He is one of the players that you see that can be as hot as red coals and then be as cool as Jack Frost's breath. When he is on, he is tough to contain, but when he is off, he gets very frustrated and tries to do too much. Many scouts have him listed in their top 10-20 even though he is not playing school-sanctioned basketball. He will play in the camps this summer and play the AAU circuit as well.
He is terrific defensively. He can jump very well, and defends the basket strong even though his frame could use some more bulk.
Johnson will do his best to show college coaches that he's one of the elite frontcourt players in the country.
For now, his favorite school is North Carolina. Maryland, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Syracuse were also mentioned while Johnson has, in the past, also prominently spoken about Arizona and Florida State.
"His school favorites change every week with him," said his father, Anthony Johnson. "He really doesn't know."
Amir is ranked 6th by Insiders and 11th by the Geeks.
