Wes Mathews Names His Leaders

The talented guard can just about choose where he wants to go.

Wes Matthews, Jr.

Wes Matthews, Jr., a 6-3, 190-pounder at Memorial High School in Madison, WI, is in an envious position. He can pick and choose exactly where he wants to go.

A well-rounded talent, Matthews takes pride in doing all of the little things well, and getting his teammates involved. He's also a tremendous scorer, but he tells us that he's more of a pass first kind of guy.

As a sophomore, Matthews earned AP All-State honorable mention recognition after averaging 14.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game as a junior.

Matthews led Memorial to the Division 1 sectional finals for the first time since 1983 and setting a school record with a 19-4 finish. He was a Big Eight Conference first-team selection and he shot 51% from the field and 77% from the free-throw line.

This season Matthews has been the leader of the only undefeated Division 1 team in Wisconsin. He has led Memorial with a 15.2 points per game average and has been the guy who has guided the Spartans to uncharted waters.

"I'm just trying to get through the season right now," he said. "Then this summer I'll have everything laid out for me...and I'll start to pick apart my top five schools. I'd say that I won't pick out a school until fall."

Wisconsin, Marquette, Connecticut, Stanford and Kentucky right now are the top 5. Arizona, Maryland, Texas, Florida and Florida State have also been mentioned.

The Insiders has Wes at 27, the Geeks at 32.
