UK Student Athletes: The Heart of the University

I work. I sweat. I bleed. I cry.
I keep working.
Do you know me?

I was one of the most sought after recruits on this campus. I turned down over 100 scholarship offers and 12 offers to play professionally across the globe to pursue a dream. I finished last season as the fourth ranked tennis player and the runner up at the NCAA Championships, becoming an All-American. I was the National Freshmen of the Year and was selected to represent our country on the 2002 United States Collegiate Tennis Team.

My name is Jesse Witten. Do you know me?

I work. I sweat. I bleed. I cry. And I keep working.

After a prep career that named me All-State four times, I chose Kentucky over a host of Southeastern Conference schools. In my first season, I became just the first Wildcat golfer in over a decade to be named first team All-Southeastern Conference and All-American. I was one of five golfers in the country to be named to the All-Freshmen Team. I finished last season as the 9th ranked player in the country and am currently a candidate for player of the year.

My name is John Holmes. Do you know me?

I work. I sweat. I bleed. I cry. And I keep working.

During my four year career at Kentucky, I was selected All-American 11 times. I was player of the Year in my sport last season and was named Male Athlete of the Year by the student run newspaper, "The Kentucky Kernel". I hold three school records and recently ended my career at Kentucky as the greatest swimmer ever. You might see me in the Olympics someday.

My name is Clayton Moss. Did you know me?

I work. I sweat. I bleed. I cry. And I keep working.

This year over 150 student athletes will participate in sports other then basketball and football. You won't see them on ESPN. You won't see them in Sports Illustrated. And their won't be a press conference announcing their future plans. But they will continue to sweat. Continue to work. Continue to give everything they have.

For you.

For me.

For the glory of Kentucky.

Do you know me?

Its a shame. They have a lot in common with you and I.

We work. We sweat. We bleed blue. We cry. And we'll keep working.

Do you know me?

Try looking in the mirror.
