Sources in the state of Georgia have indicated to Inside Kentucky that Rich Brooks and his staff have offered Tri-Cities High School (GA) quarterback Tray Rutland a scholarship.
The 6-foot-3, 185 pound athlete is being recruited by Joker Phillips, whom extended the early offer to Rutland in April.
"Off the top of my head I have offers from North Carolina, Connecticut, Tennessee, Ohio State, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Ball State, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson and North Carolina State," Rutland said.
The East Point (GA) native has drawn comparisons to former Virginia Tech great and current NFL star Michael Vick, with his strong arm and tremendous speed. Last season as a junior, Rutland ran for 900 yards and 5 touchdowns; while throwing for 727 yards on 8 touchdowns with just 60 passing attempts.
In a recent evaluation at the MSL/Insiders Combine in Atlanta, Southern recruiting guru Scott Kennedy raved about the play of Rutland;
"Tray Rutland of Tri-Cities is a two time participant at TheInsiders/MSL Combine. He was a standout last year, and he was the top quarterback this year as well. He has an easy release, and he had gotten considerably faster in the past 12 months as well. Rutland will have the ability to hurt a lot of teams running and throwing this year."
According to his coach, Robert Dendy, Rutland is a very hard worker in the weight room and has a very strong throwing arm.
He had the fastest time of all the quarterbacks at the MSL/Insiders' camp earlier this month and can run the forty, under or around the 4.4 range.
