Mitchell One Of The Best In 2006 Class

After bringing home one of the nations best classes in 2004 and currently on hot pursuit to start 2005 with a bang, Tubby Smith and his staff have started looking ahead to 2006. <i>Inside Kentucky</i>'s Mike Sullivan caught up with one player whom the Cats have already started making early interest with, in Jonathan Mitchell......

Jonathan Mitchell, an offensively skilled 6-foot-7 combo forward from Mount Vernon High School in Mount Vernon, New York, is likely to be highly rated by many scouting services. Mitchell has the ability to drain medium range jumpers and also take his frame inside to be effective against the big bodies in the paint. Mitchell, who weighs about 225 pounds, is an agile lefty who can dart in the lane and free himself up for shots. He will create mismatches for other teams due to his versatility.

St. John's, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Connecticut, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Duke, Kansas, Georgia Tech, Syracuse, and Marquette are already involved seriously in his recruiting process.

Mitchell averaged 13 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and four assists last season. Mitchell expects to play this summer for the Metro Hawks. Jonathan was especially outstanding at the recent IS8 Spring tournament. He helped Mount Vernon win the spring title.

"I am trying to work on all parts of my game," Mitchell said. "I want to work on my ballhandling, my jumper, my defense. You always try to work on it anytime you are playing."
