Tasmin Mitchell Talks Cats, Tigers, and the NBA

While the entire world was at Nike Camp in Indianapolis checking up on the same old recruits, Inside Kentucky's Mike Sullivan was in New Jersey to catch up on Kentucky's OTHER offered power forward; former number one recruit Tasmin Mitchell.

The hype started a few years back with Tasmin Mitchell, a 6-foot-8 athlete from Denham Springs High School in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Mitchell possesses a solid frame and is a very good athlete. Tasmin has put his skills in the spotlight this week at the ABCD Reebok camp in Teaneck, New Jersey. So far Mitchell has been impressive.

"There are a lot of good players here," Mitchell said. "It's a good chance to play some competitive ball. I like the challenge."

Mitchell is playing on a team called the Lakers here at the camp. It's obvious Tasmin is one of the top players in the 2005 class. "You always are trying to improve your game," he stated when asked what part he is trying to work on this summer. "I go to Vegas and California after this for some tournaments."

Tasmin has a real short list. "LSU or Kentucky," he said. "I like LSU because it would be a chance to play with my dogs, the guys I know. Close to home is something I like. I like Kentucky because of Tubby Smith (head coach). I like what he has done at Kentucky. They have a great tradition there too."

Mitchell said he is likely to wait before deciding. "I will probably make my decision after the season is over," he said. "I also want to look at the NBA."

When asked if eight high school players being drafted this past June by NBA teams helped increase his confidence, he nodded and said, "Yes."
