National Champs Offer Wildcat Prospect

Wildcat prospect John Garcia receives his biggest scholarship offer to date.

John Garcia, a 6-foo-9 center from Brentwood High School in Brentwood, New York, received another high major scholarship offer today. The University of Connecticut made the move today to extend a scholarship offer to Garcia, who was named to the Reebok ABCD All Star game in early July. Garcia had a terrific spring and summer in AAU competition and proved he was one of the best big men available in the 2005 class.

Garcia already has offers from Richmond, Villanova, Kentucky, though Tubby Smith's program has yet to offer a scholarship.

"Kentucky hasn't called me in a while," Garcia said.

Garcia is a very efficient player around the basket. He blocks shots, rebounds, throws a solid outlet pass, and can score with his back to the basket. In addition, he has a soft touch that is likely to get better as his range improves.

"I plan on taking unofficial visits to Pittsburgh and Connecticut in August," Garcia said. "Then I will take some official visits in September when school starts."

Garcia has left the door open in where he might officially visit. He also said he doesn't have a favorite in his recruiting. "I just want to see what the schools look like and meet the coaches," he said. "They are all great schools."
