Next Two Sport Star at UK? Tubby Gives the O.K.

As reported a month ago at Inside Kentucky, Tubby Smith and the Wildcat basketball staff have given the go ahead for Byrnes (SC) wide receiver prospect to walk-on next year if he accepts a scholarship to play football. The star athlete sat down and talked about Tubby and the Wildcats in an interview with Miller Safrit

Lonnell DeWalt wants to do it at UK. Brooks Foster will be doing it at UNC. Fred Gibson currently is doing it at Georgia. And now Duncan (SC) native and wide receiver Freddie Brown has been given the okay from Tubby Smith to do it at UK.

Where and whether he'll be attempting to play both sports at UK appears to be the early question marks.

"I'm still talking about doing both sports right now. I'm not sure if I definitely will, but it is something I can think about."

Basketball, according to Brown is his first love and UK is the first school to openly allow him to try it next season.

"I talked to Tubby a little bit, not a whole lot. The understanding is that I have an opportunity to play basketball for them, but we still have to talk about it more."

A recent move from North Carolina has made the Byrnes reciever a hot commodity of late.

"I have three offers, from South Carolina, Kentucky, and Wake Forest. I have some new teams jumping in there, like Texas just called a couple days ago. NC State and Virginia are still in there," says the 6-foot-4, 200 pounder. "I gained a lot (more attention) actually, because Kentucky had never heard of me before I came down here. It helped me more than it hurt me."

"I need to decide where I want to go first and then talk about it with that basketball coach and see if they will give me an opportunity."

Brown is trying to remain as open as possible about his future destination.

"I don't know yet where I want to go, I'm undecided. I like them all right now."
