"I have a bunch of schools that I'm looking at, but I haven't really narrowed it down," Humphries said when asked for a list of schools.
He gets tons of mail, and is being recruited by pretty much all of the Big 10, including hometown Minnesota, where he has taken an unofficial visit. Some other schools Humphries is considering are Louisville, Kentucky, Michigan State, Michigan, Texas, Arizona, Iowa, and of course, UNC. He gets mail from several other coaches as well.
As far as UNC is concerned, an assistant has been in town to watch Humphries practice. When asked if Carolina has made an official scholarship offer, he said, "Well, to my understanding, if I wanted to commit there, I could commit there."
He has no plans to commit anywhere any time soon, but he wants end his recruitment early, saying, "I want to commit before the end of the summer (of 2002) for sure."
Besides Minnesota, Humphries has taken unofficial visits to Michigan State, Michigan, Texas, and Iowa. He also has plans to visit Arizona unofficially in January.
While he has no leader, and is very wide open, Humphries did mention one school that might stand out from the rest right now. "At this point probably Michigan State a little bit," Humphries said, citing their campus and style of play as reasons. Being close to home is not a factor, but "if there are two schools that are comparable, I'd probably go to the one closer to home, but I wouldn't make that a major part of my decision."
This season, Humphries will play the 3, 4, and 5 for Hopkins; however, he said he sees himself playing the 3 in college.
