The youngster from Woodland Hills Taft says, "Washington has a great campus and their football program has a great tradition They like to run the shotgun formation and they throw the ball a lot. Seattle is a nice city and it's a cool atmosphere to be in. The coaches want me there.
"Oregon has some great athletic facilities and a lot of the QBs that go there end up in the NFL. They throw the ball like 30 or 40 times a game. I talked with one of their coaches last week and he just wanted to see how I was doing.
"Utah is a good program and they're going in the right direction with it. They're going to be a top 10 team this year I think. Coach (Urban) Meyer is a winning coach. They were 11-1 last year so they're obviously a good team. They want me to come on board.
"LSU has a great atmosphere and they're true national champs who can come back when adversity strikes. Plus they're balanced and not just one-dimensional--you always got to have balance on offense.
"Oklahoma is a winning program and they've been good for the past three years. They have some real talent on that team. Coach (Chuck) Long (off coord/QBs) knows what he's doing. They run some of the same formations on offense that we do at Taft, although they are a little more complex."
Portis says he will probably visit these five schools but has no dates set. "All my faves tell me I can play early."
