QB Josh Portis Looking at Five

For a while Kentucky appeared to be a possible destination for quarterback Josh Portis, but since the Wildcats have landed a commitment from Curtis Pulley, it appears that Portis has decided to look elsewhere. Get the latest...

California QB Josh Portis (6-3, 190, 4.55) denies a leader but favors Washington (visited), Oregon (visited), Utah (visited), LSU and Oklahoma. Arizona St, Kentucky, Marshall and Oregon St have also offered.

The youngster from Woodland Hills Taft says, "Washington has a great campus and their football program has a great tradition They like to run the shotgun formation and they throw the ball a lot. Seattle is a nice city and it's a cool atmosphere to be in. The coaches want me there.

"Oregon has some great athletic facilities and a lot of the QBs that go there end up in the NFL. They throw the ball like 30 or 40 times a game. I talked with one of their coaches last week and he just wanted to see how I was doing.

"Utah is a good program and they're going in the right direction with it. They're going to be a top 10 team this year I think. Coach (Urban) Meyer is a winning coach. They were 11-1 last year so they're obviously a good team. They want me to come on board.

"LSU has a great atmosphere and they're true national champs who can come back when adversity strikes. Plus they're balanced and not just one-dimensional--you always got to have balance on offense.

"Oklahoma is a winning program and they've been good for the past three years. They have some real talent on that team. Coach (Chuck) Long (off coord/QBs) knows what he's doing. They run some of the same formations on offense that we do at Taft, although they are a little more complex."

Portis says he will probably visit these five schools but has no dates set. "All my faves tell me I can play early."
