Mt. Olive Prep in Marietta has been a popular stop on the fall circuit. According to their head coach, Garrick Respress, the program has four guys over 6-foot-7 and more than five Division I prospects.
The hot name we heard of on Thursday was Curtis Brown. Apparently, Brown is a 6-foot-9 big man who had a successful high school year last season but is at the school for a prep year.
"He's from Beach [high school] in Savannah," Respress said. "They went to the state semifinals in 5-A, they lost to South Gwinnett and he had 8 blocked shots, the second most in the history of the state tournament in Georgia."
According to Respress, some of the heavy hitters in college basketball have already been in to see him. Indiana, Purdue, Georgia, Cincinnati, Tennessee and Kentucky have been in and are coming to see him. In fact, North Carolina and Georgia are there today.
"I can tell you this, anybody who watches him play will recruit him," Respress, the former assistant at Tennessee Tech said. "He's 6-9 and 220 pounds and can shoot the face up shot. He's got tremendous upside."
Right now, Respress is waiting to see who offers the young man. If it's a big timer, then a decision could come down in the fall. "If he's offered by one of those schools – Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina – then he'll probably sign early. If he's not offered by an elite school then he'll wait. He's definitely that caliber of player, there's no doubt about it."
