Losing ground with McKinney?

James McKinney is a four-star defensive tackle recruit from the Bluegrass State. McKinney, 6-3 and 263 pounds, is from Louisville (Ky.) Central High School. For now, he and his teammates are on a four game winning streak.

"We lost our first two games, each by three points," said McKinney. "I missed the first game with a bad back. Now, we are on a four game winning streak with three shutouts. The defense is playing well."

In five games this season McKinney has 28 tackles and 5.5 sacks.

In regards to recruiting, three schools stand out.

"I would say that there is a three-way tie between Michigan, Notre Dame and Louisville.

"That Michigan staff has really embraced me. I feel very comfortable with them and it's kind of a home away from home for me.

"Notre Dame is playing well and I like coach (Tyrone) Willingham. They have tradition and I like their environment. It's different than where I am from in Louisville."

"I have family at Louisville. Defensive back Steve McKinney is my cousin and all the players seem pretty cool. Their depth situation is good for me at d-tackle so I think I can come in and play.

"It looks like I will likely make official visits to Ohio State, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Clemson. I have already been to Michigan, Louisville and Kentucky."

McKinney will be featured on Countdown to Signing Day on Wednesday. The show airs at 6:30 eastern on Fox Sports Net South. Fox Sports Net Southwest, and Sunshine Network in Florida.
