The Wildcats captured their first home SEC win of the season with a 3-1 victory over Mississippi State Friday. Junior Amy Kaplan led the way for Kentucky with 34 kills on the weekend on .492 hitting. Kaplan had a career-best performance against Ole Miss with 21 kills on .625 hitting. Also performing well in the week was libero Jenni Casper, who totaled 45 digs, an ace and two assists.

Kentucky has held 13 straight opponents to one goal or less Senior midfielder Jamal Shteiwi has scored or assisted on 16 of UK's 26 goals this year (61.5 percent). He has three multi-goal games this year including a the fifth hat trick in school history Friday against Bowling Green. He was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week for his efforts. Junior goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum has five shutouts this year and is allowing just 0.84 goals per game. Freshman Michael Strong has four goals, including two game winners, in eight games.

Kentucky remains in the hunt for an SEC Tournament berth, but the road to Auburn became a little more difficult with a pair of Wildcat losses to Georgia and Tennessee over the weekend. A superb defensive effort was ruined by a last-second game-winning goal at Tennessee on Sunday. UK has now dropped five straight to Georgia and four consecutive matches to Tennessee

Other News From Around the Department

Last week, the Blue defeated the White in UK's annual intrasquad exhibition meet, and the Kentucky men and women swept the Kentucky Relay Meet at UK's Lancaster Aquatic Center. The Cats kick off their dual-match season this Saturday against Michigan State. The meet is set for 1 p.m. EDT at the Lancaster Aquatic Center.

Senior All-American Jesse Witten plays for the ITA Southeast Regional singles title today in Memphis, Tenn. The remainder of the team will head for Knoxville this week for the UT Scramble.

Kentucky heads to the ITA Southeast Regional Championships this week in Winston-Salem, N.C. Senior All-American Aibika Kalsarieva was the singles runner-up in the event last year.

Fourth-ranked Kentucky won the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Invitational, its second tournament title of the fall season. The Cats finished 8-over and five shots ahead of second-place finisher Georgia State. Mark Blakefield won his first event by shooting 213 (70-69-74) to finish 3-under par. Blakefield was named SEC Golfer of the Week.

Ray Geyer shot 587 in smallbore and three Wildcats fired 580 or better in air rifle to lead Kentucky to a win over Ohio State in its home opener.
