"Hello, Kentucky," said Brown's father, Curtis Sr. in the article. "Kentucky offered him and Curtis verbally committed. He's very excited and his family is very excited.
"He's been hearing from a lot of other schools recently, but his heart and my heart's always been with Kentucky."
A second report from a media organization quickly followed suit, Saturday morning confirming Brown's commitment.
Sunday morning, however, Inside Kentucky's Dave Telep dropped a bomb on the party.
"Media reports out of Kentucky indicated on Sunday that the Wildcats had received a commitment from a senior power forward," Telep said in his report. "InsideKentucky.com investigated the story and found that not only has Kentucky not received a commitment, the Wildcats have not put the offer on the table."
Monday, Lexington's CBS affiliate WKYT got into the act, confirming the CJ report from Friday, stating that Brown had indeed garnered an offer and had committed.
That report came under fire later that evening when Coach Respress spoke publically on Lexington's UK affiliate radio station - WLAP stating adamantly - confirming Inside Kentucky and Dave Telep's report.
Tuesday, Jerry Tipton and the Lexington Herald-Leader followed suit - confirming what Inside Kentucky reported three days ago.
"You can't commit till someone offers you a scholarship," said Garrick Respress, Brown's coach at Mt. Olive Prep in Marietta, Ga. "My understanding is the University of Kentucky has not offered Curtis a scholarship. That being said, I don't know how you can commit."
"That's why they're in prep schools," Respress said of the need to improve academic credentials. "He needs to work on both. I don't think he'll have a problem."
