S&D: #15 Cats Welcomes #23 Alabama in SEC Opener

The Kentucky men's and women's swimming and diving squads welcome the 23rd-ranked men and 26th-ranked women of Alabama in the Cats' home conference opener Saturday at UK's Lancaster Aquatic Center; The men's and women's three-meter diving events begin at 9:15 a.m., while the swimming events get underway at 10 a.m.; 200 UK Men's Basketball tickets will be given away; One lucky fan may win a Delta Airlines round-trip ticket good for travel anywhere in the continental United States.

Fans attending Saturday's meet will receive free Krispy Kreme doughnuts and will have the opportunity to win a Delta Airlines round-trip ticket good for travel anywhere within the continental United States. In addition, 200 tickets for future Kentucky men's basketball games will be given away during the meet. Admission is free for all attendees.

The 15th-ranked Kentucky men (3-1) are coming off of one of their most impressive victories in recent memory, as the Cats dealt No. 13 Indiana and Southwest Missouri State a 148-95 defeat last Saturday at Indiana's Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center. The Cats captured 11 of 13 events on their way to the easy victory. Junior Steven Manley led Kentucky with victories in the 200 and 500-freestyle events and the 200 individual medley. Freshman Kristian Outinen remained unbeaten in the 200 breaststroke, as did senior Daniel Cruz in the 200 butterfly and junior Daniel Farnham in the 50 and 100-freestyle events. Kentucky also remains unbeaten in the 400-medley relay after the first three meets.

Several Cats rank high among the nation's best in several events. According to collegeswimming.com, Cruz holds the third-fastest time in the 200 butterfly, while Farnham's time in the 100 freestyle also is the nation's third-fastest time. Manley holds the nation's fifth-fastest time in the 200 individual medley. The Wildcat 400-freestyle relay squad has the fourth-fastest time in the country.

For the UK women (2-2), freshman Jenny Bradford remains unbeaten in the 50 freestyle after three meets, and junior Laura Graham is undefeated in the 200 breaststroke. Graham holds the 17th-fastest time in the event, according to collegeswimming.com. The UK women's squad suffered a 140-103 defeat to No. 21 Indiana last Saturday but soundly defeated Southwest Missouri State during the same meet.
