RECRUITING: 'Cats, Eagles Fight For Alfonso

Perhaps nobody's stock has risen more then Louisville native Alfonso Smith since the beginning of the recruiting year. A once unknown out of Wagganer High School - the talented athlete is done with his season and almost ready to make a decision.

"I think I am gonna decide soon - real soon," Smith said. "It's between Kentucky and Boston College."

"I've got an official visit scheduled for the 10th (of December)," Smith stated. "I will probably decide after my visit to Kentucky."

Both Boston College and Kentucky are recruiting Smith as a running back.

"There is a lot of playing time at Kentucky and they say I can come in and help build something special there."

"Boston College has great academics and is a great school."

Despite missing 3 games with an injury, the athletic prospect still ran for 1,030 yards and 11 touchdowns.

"We lost in the second round of the playoffs. We finished 10-2 and were 2nd in district - 3rd in the region."

"I was hurt - but the time off has helped," Smith concluded. "I am fine now."

Asked if the hometown Louisville Cardinals were under serious consideration; "It's really between those two schools," Smith said. "I'm not gonna take a visit to Louisville."
