The talented lineman had been favoring Michigan all year and that may still be the case after a weekend visit to Ann Arbor next weekend. "I've been to Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, and Miami and I got Michigan next weekend," he said. "After that, I should be able to sit down and really figure it all out. Hopefully I'll have it (a decision) by Christmas."
Zirbel, 6-7 and 290 pounds, recapped his visit to UM. "Basically, it's Miami, a great place to be," he said. "I had gone down there during the summer for camp and met some of the coaches and was in the area but this was different. Eric Winston was my host and I really got to see a lot of new things. The city's great, it's fun and really a great place to be. That's what really pushed Miami over the top. Norman, Oklahoma is a pretty boring town and Miami's awesome."
Zirbel also enjoyed being around a program with such high expectations. He talked more about that. "They're a young team and I think their offense is going to be really good next year but down there a three-loss season is a bad year for those guys," he said. "That's what happens when you're expected to compete for the title every year. They are so used to winning and place so much emphasis on that."
Zirbel, who recently began his prep basketball season, will be plenty busy this week. "A lot of the coaches will be coming by my house this week," he said. "Coach Kehoe will be here on Thursday. Coach Wilson (OU) will be here. Michigan will be here Tuesday, and Coach Wiles from Virginia Tech will be here on Wednesday. Kentucky's coming this week too. It'll be pretty crazy for awhile."
