UK-IU: Tubby Post-Game Quotes

Tubby's post-game quotes from the IU 73-58 win

Kentucky Head Coach Tubby Smith
"I thought it was a hard-played game, both teams really went after each other. I was very impressed with Indiana's physicality. They were very physical throughout the game and in the game. I thought we played with a lot more poise and a lot more patience today than we have in the past. We played a lot smarter. I have to compliment Indiana because they made us do some things and our kids stepped up.

"I thought everybody that we had in the game at some point in time contributed off the bench. Guys like Josh Carrier, Bobby Perry, Shagari Alleyne, Joe Crawford – everybody stepped up and made a contribution. Chuck Hayes presence inside was a real force. Once again, he led us in rebounding. We had good, balanced scoring led by Patrick Sparks, who sparked us in the first half making some shots.

"What can you say about Bracey Wright? He's a hard guy to cover, he works so hard without the ball. They look for him and he gets his shot off so quick, it created a lot of problems for us.

"We've got a week (off) now, the kids have to focus on exams. So, it's a big week for us."

On the first half offense …
"Patrick played a lot of point today and I thought he did a good job. The thing is, he got to stay out there because he is a threat to shoot the jumpshot and make shots. We went to a different alignment in our offensive set and I think that made a difference – keeping our post people close to the basket. That was the difference."

On Shagari Alleyne's play …
"Shagari has been getting better each practice, getting a lot of confidence. He's always had a good understanding of the game, but we need him to get tougher. Now, he's starting to understand where his contribution is and where he can contribute the most. That's staying under the basket, rebounding the weak side, kicking the ball back out, playing close defense and blocking shots."

On if the teams is where he wants it …
"We have been trying a lot of different things. We've been playing a lot of different players. So, we're still trying to find ourselves and I think it's going to take time."

On playing zone defense …
"We did zone them a lot today and I thought that's when we made the run in the first half. We did a good job of making them take some time because they are a good transition offensive team. I thought we would change it up right before the half, and with about eight minutes to go in the half we went to zone and extended our pressure. That gave us some turnovers and also kept them at bay the rest of the half."
