Ga. LB still on Cats radar

In the summer, we introduced Kentucky fans to a talented linebacker prospect from Roswell (GA). We checked in with him to see what was up in his world of recruiting ...

"Right now, I am looking at Southern Mississippi and Memphis mostly," Johnnie Walker said. "Kentucky, also - but mainly just Memphis and Southern Miss.

"Southern Mississippi says they are going to sign four linebackers and they are very close to offering it sounds," Walker said. "And Memphis, I am really thinking about making a visit to them soon."

A big linebacker in high school, Walker projects as a defensive end on the college level. He's got excellent quickness and lateral movement, to go with his upper body strenghth. He was a standout at the MSL Combine in Atlanta this summer.

"I'm not sure about a decision," Walker answered. "I'm just waiting for an offer from anywhere and then we'll see."

Walker, who plays for Centennial High School, made an unofficial visit to UK in the spring; "Kentucky keeps telling me that I am still on their board," Walker said. "They've been keeping in touch with me through the process. Coach Phillips calls every now and then."

With his senior campaign over, Walker is looking forward to the college recruiting process: "I missed the first game, but I still made 70 tackles." The team did not hold a similar fate; "We didn't do so hot," Walker stated. "We had trouble on offense and finished 4-6."
