Christian Johnson wavering? James McKinney to visit Kentucky? UK Commit to get ratings boost? Linebacker visiting UK? Wheeler trio headed to UK? Get the latest in this month's RUMOR mill ...
One of Kentucky's more recent commitments is set to take some official visits. Christian Johnson, from Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, has scheduled visits to Southern Illinois and Cincinnati. He might also set one up to Marshall.
"I love Kentucky," said Christian Johnson, "its one of my first loves - I am sure of that - but do to some talk of greyshirting, I am just considering my options. It's nothing big, I am just going to take some other visits."
All might not be lost for James McKinney and Kentucky. According to our sources in Louisville, the Central High School star might take a visit to UK at the beginning of next year (January). McKinney apparently had a long talk with the staff as recently as last night and apparently is mulling heading to Lexington for an official visit. McKinney has said countless times that he wants to stay close to his mother in Louisville.
Speaking of Louisville, the Cards picked up a huge commitment yesterday in Marcus Gordon. Having had the pleasure of seeing Gordon in high school, I can assure you the Cards will be getting an in-state impact player and one that deserves the four-star rating he currently merits.
Speaking of stars, the Wildcats Fatu Turituri was recently upgraded in the Scout.com database to three stars and Earl Bennett, an athlete from Birmingham whom committed on Inside Kentucky earlier this month, is currently being given a stiff evaluation and could be bumped up as early as next week to a three-star rating. The bad news is new commitment Bill Stull was downgraded to a three star.
Columbia (SC) running back Mike Davis' apparent lean to Clemson, might not last long. That's because Atlanta (GA) running back James Davis, whom was rumored to be leaning to UK by another web service, is all but committed to Clemson and will more then likely commit this week if he already hasn't.
Adding to the list of schools currently in a bind to find a scholarship and playing time is Alabama. With a host of running back commitments, Davis may be swayed elsewhere, as a team once thought to be as high as the front runner might be pushed aside. All in all, things looking quite nice for UK down the stretch.
According to sources on the football team, Johnny Williams is just tearing up the place with his work ethic, strong workouts and downright attitude towards the team.
Those same sources, confirm that the redshirt freshmen will be quite the contributors next season, quite possibly forcing some freshmen whom played this past season to sit and redshirt.
Pittsburgh (PA) quarterback Bill Stull came up 60 points shy on his SAT in his last attempt according to OMSpirit.com. Stull is expected to have no problem getting his test score up.
Sources deemed "good" are indicating that Marietta (Ga.) and Wheeler HS could be the next big UK pipeline for the year. Mam Nyang is reportedly telling people he's going to UK and Boyd Coleman and Richie Rich will both be visiting UK on the same day as Nyang in January (if Rich makes the visit). If the Cats can wine and dine these three - they may be able to pull a 2 for 3 like they did with the LaGrange trio.
Auburn picked up a commitment from defensive tackle Brian West and appear poised to take another defensive end before the end of December. At the rate they are taking commitments, the Auburn Tigers might not want to wait around for Brandon Deaderick after all. 'Bama and Louisville still appear to be in good position closing down the stretch.
Linebacker Marvin Peoples from Apopka has been offered and will visit January 14th according to Phil Kornblut at PalmettoSports.com
DeMoreo Ford will start at wide receiver for the South team in the North/South Georgia All-Star game. Quite an accomplishment for Ford.
Don't expect Coach Roper bringing Bill Stull to Lexington to be the last and only recruit Roper attracts. Suddenly every target on Ole Miss's recruiting list becomes fair game and a possibility. Roper's reputation at Ole Miss was of a fabulous recruiter, so adding him to a staff that includes Steve Brown and Joker Phillips makes faces cringe at the possibilities.
