Cincy In The Driver's Seat
Corey Gibbs is moving and shaking on the recruiting trail. He's averaging 24 points and over 10 rebounds a game.
"I'm ready to take it to the state," Gibbs said. "We have a real good chance as long as we keep our heads on straight and nobody gets an injury."
An improved perimeter game is what Gibbs is showcasing these days. "I'm trying to fit it into my game. That's the biggest improvement. I'm shooting more and a lot more comfortable than last year. We've got a big guy and he can stay down low and let's me play on the wing. It's the four, but I'm stepping out and shooting."
Right now, he's lists Alabama, Cincinnati, North Carolina and Georgetown. According to Gibbs, all have been down to watch including Alabama's Mark Gottfried and Cincinnati's Bob Huggins. Georgetown assistant Rony Thompson and UNC's Fred Quartlebaum have been in town as well.
Kentucky has also been evaluating Gibbs and paying close attention to his game.
There is a leader: "Probably Cincinnati right now," Gibbs said. "I guess they've been the most aggressive in trying to recruit me and I really like their style of play. I'm trying to (get the list down) to where I could commit this summer." Cincinnati and 'Bama have offered already.
Gibbs will play with Team Georgia and attend Nike Camp just as he did last summer.
