UK-USC: Dave Odom Quotes

South Carolina's Dave Odom talked with the media following his team's loss to Kentucky, 79-75

Opening statement…
"I was very disappointed that we weren't able to hold on and hold our own defensively in the second half. Obviously, when you're ahead of a team like Kentucky early, they're going to give a giant effort in the second half and they did that tonight. I'm disappointed that we weren't able to be competitive and resistant inside and I find that hard to accept. They had their way with us and they were much bigger than us inside. They got to the free throw line a lot more than we did and this game was won inside. They showed a lot of aggression on offensive and perhaps we just settled for too many jumpshots."

"We turned the ball over too much tonight. You can't win a game against an opponent like Kentucky unless you play smart, almost errorless basketball."

On the second half…
"I thought we played tight defense in the last minutes of the second half and held them to just one field goal. However, when they go to the free throw line every trip down the floor, they don't really need a lot of field goals. They were much more aggressive in the second half offensively and defensively. We didn't react as well as we needed to."

On John Chappell's play...
"I thought Chappell came in and calmed the waters for us a little bit, but we gave them too many chances inside. Kentucky is an excellent team with great size, good depth, great coaches and great fans. Tonight was a great night for them, but not a very good one for us. We just have to get ready to face Georgia on Saturday night. That's the biggest game for us right now."

On Chuck Hayes…
"Chuck Hayes is an excellent player as you all know. He's an All-Conference caliber player and certainly a candidate for All-American."
