"I just wanted to let you know Lee has given Ohio University his verbal committment," Lee's mother, Sandy Renfro told Inside Kentucky via email. "Being part of Frank Solich's first Ohio recruiting class was too much to resist!"
Lee Renfro was one of the state's best players, rushing for 2419 yards on 212 carries for a 11.41 yards per carry average. His 219.9 yards per game and 36 TDs led the state in scoring this past year.
"Around Christmas, Lee was ready to commit to Southern Miss," Renfro said, "however he received a call from Coach Solich who had seen his senior film. The staff was really persistent and engaging over the last couple of weeks. The visit to Ohio University was wonderful and we were all very impressed with the university and the staff."
Renfro chose the Bobcats over offers from Southern Mississippi, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, UT-Martin, Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois.
"Lee spoke with Coach Butler at Southern Miss to let them know his decision," Ms. Renfro wrote. "Southern Miss is also a class act."
Lee is expected to play strong safety at the collegiate level. Defensively, Renfro collected 116 Tackles, caused 7 fumbles and had 3 interceptions last season.
This marks the second great accomplishment in as many weeks for Renfro, whom was recently named the Most Outstanding Senior Football Player in the state of Kentucky.
