UK Baseball Holds First Practice

LEXINGTON – The Kentucky baseball team held its first team practice of 2005 on Sunday morning indoors at the Nutter Fieldhouse.

"It was a good first day of work," said Kentucky head coach John Cohen. "We have a lot we're trying to accomplish this year and today was just the first step."

The team worked out for slightly more than three hours in what was the first practice for 19 newcomers. After a day off on Monday, the Wildcats will return to the practice field on Tuesday.

"We have a lot of young guys that we have to prepare for SEC competition," Cohen said. "But they are all tremendous competitors and understand how hard they have to work everyday in practice."

The Wildcats open the season on Feb. 18 against Appalachian State in the Buccaneer Classic at Charleston, S.C. The first home game for Kentucky is on Feb. 25 when it hosts Buffalo.
